Personally I use fresh bait from a good source (local bait for local people) and would always advise others to do the same. However to be fair to the guys producing ready made bait it would not be in thier interests to produce crap. If they were producing bait that was dangerous to the fish or water then they would soon be out of business so whats the point. But why the fixation on boilies - corn, maples, lupins, nuts of all types worms, maggots and even the humble potatoe will all catch. Boilies do catch fish, they are relitivley cheap and easy to use but they also catch anglers as well

the thing with the boilie is its ease and versatility of use, the ability to fish it at any range feasable and the fact that they, as round objects do, fly easily and accurately..................therefore makling things easier for the angler............

plus the fact that to fish any other bait usually requires thought and a modicum of skill !

If im honest, I believe boilies are banned on certain fisheries (mostly match/pleasure lakes) because of the stigma attatched to carp fishing. Whether we like it or not, there is a divide between carp and match anglers, mostly ethical opinions more than anything else.

We as carp/specialist anglers know, within reason, that boilies dont harm fisheries. But you'll usually find that if boilies are banned, so are floating baits, hemp, nuts etc, basically anything to do with modern day carp fishing.

These are baits that are perfectly safe, when used properly. So why ban them? Because of lack of understanding of how to safely use them. As is the case with boilies.

Unfortunately, these few people that abuse the 'forbidden' baits of the carp angler are always going to spoil it for the responisble anglers amongst us.
