Default Tiger Nuts

After some advice on tiger nuts, not used this bait yet but given lots of tips to use them as carp cant leave them alone but Ive heard that if you dont prepare them properly then you can KILL the fish Is this why some fisheries ban this bait

Can you give me tips on how to use and prepare this bait properly.

Thanks

I usually soak mine for about 72 hrs or more. They expand see. I remember one bloke telling me that if not prepared properly it would be like feeding a sponge to a carp and you can imagine what that would do.

Soak for 48 hours (in sweetner if desired), boil then simmer for 35 mins or until they've swollen. Boiling is ESSENTIAL. They swell almost 2/3 after being boiled.

They are a fantastic bait, i take them EVERYWHERE, but prepare them properly for the carps sake.

As for using them effecively, you dont have to pile 'em in at all. 15-20 (handful) is more than enough in the feed area, i tend to fish for 1 fish at a time with them. The most effective method ive found is once prepared, dry them out, then tie 5 or 6 into a funnel web P.V.A bag, hook 'em up, and simply fish that way with 1 or 2 on the hook (hair). Awsome!!

top bait but the reason some fisheries ban them is because they have no nutritional value what so ever and this is fact not myth so if anybody would like to comment then bring on.or just read carp talks bait columns.

It is now cultivated on only a small scale in North Africa and Spain, where it is esteemed for its nutritional content, as well as its nutty almond-like taste.

Tiger Nuts are high in protein, calcium, iron, thiamine, and phosphorus.
I wouldn't say that tiger nuts have no nutritional profile what so ever, and i wouldn't say that that is the only reason to why some fishery owners ban them.

One of the main reasons to why fisheries ban them is due to the carp not being able to digest the nut properly when it isn't prepared correctly which is what this thread is preaching. There wouldn't be a problem if everybody prepared the nut correctly and if they were used in a moderate amount and not piled in by the kilo.

I beg to differ carpologist, who told you this fact? A simple google search for chufas provides loads of interesting info :

Quote:
Tigernuts have excellent nutritional qualities with a fat composition similar to olives and a rich mineral content, especially phosphorus and potassium. Tiger nuts are also gluten and cholesterol free, and have a very low sodium content.

According to the Consejo Regulador de Chufa de Valencia (Regulating Council for Valencia's Tigernuts) [1], the nutritional composition/100 ml of a classical Horchata de Chufas, is as follows: energy content around 66 kcal, proteins around 0.5 g, carbohydrates over 10 g with starch at least 1.9 g, fats at least 2 g.
CHUFAS RULE..........
