Default 40kilos of boilies in winter

I read an article a while back in total carp i think, Jim Shelley was saying after a session in winter he once put in 40kilos of boilies to keep the fish on the move through out the winter months ( spread around the lake). Does anybody else think this is a good idea?? Im not planning on trying it as i dont have 40k of boilies lying around believe it or not

i personally wouldn't put that amount of bait in but the rewards speak for themselves he caught some brilliant fish but the price he got the bait for, he could afford to do it, like most anglers probaly couldn't

Just out of interest does the author of this article mention the name and manufacturers name of the 40kg of boilies he has chucked into the venue. I would put money on the fact that the author has !!

This is called stealth advertising anglers who are sponsored by bait companies always mention their sponsors and if the reader is daft enough to believe all that he/she has written in the article and the reader is not short of a few quid he may then go out and purchase maybe not 40kg but maybe 5 , 10 or 20kg of his/her sponsors bait .If 1 in 20 readers do this it puts the bait company quids in and the author then keeps his/her sponsorship for another season .Its all about money and how to get the average/normal angler on the bank to part with his/her hard earned on their sponsors product.

Stealth advertising - often as stealthy as big kick in the knackers by the tango man wearing a flashing light hat! Stealth, lol.

Dont know his name but there is a guy who writes (copies the nash catalogue) about bait in Carpworld and now addict and it is hilarious! Try reading it, its so funny.

'I got out of my car which i had painted a nash logo on, i had since this been getting 200MPG and was out running my mates Buggatti Veyron. The all my new nash luggage went on my nash barrow and we nashed it off to the lake.....lots of nash....followed by picture of fish.' Superb writing i tell you

Being sinical again i feel

There are some anglers who do get their bait for free but these will only be the top 10% or so.
Most anglers who do articles for mags get their bait at trade prices which works out at roughly half price I believe. In return for this they have to don their 'mainline' hat every time they have a picture taken with a fish and mention the manufacturer at every opertunity.
These anglers are sponsored by the companies.

At the end of the day, even at trade prices I couldn't afford to put 40k in at a time

Sponsored anglers - Get there bait free or i believe in rare cases get paid to use it.
Field testers - Get a new bait either free if there the top ones or at trade price. In exchange they give feedback, write articles and mention it etc and publish photos of fish in mags with the bait mentioned.
The others - Often there are people who get a bait that has been released already at a cut price, often the people who the first thing they say too you is ' I am a field tester for mainline.' Not sure what to call them.

there are some good points here and some rather strange oppinions here as i am a feild tester for a reputable company its not as easy as everybody thinks, you really have to push yourself for that sponsership but its not all bad because you can get a bait established on a water and once its done another bait comes out and you have to try and repeat the process of getting them on it. i use a hell of a lot of boillie in a season and my local which is only 3 acres with a stock of around 30 fish saw 40k in 7 week but i did manage most of the fish i wanted, but if im going on a week session ill take 40k of boillie and get around 50k of particles and thats just fishing over here. mr shelly doesnt just use boillie for all his pre-baiting he use an awful lot of particles also which he pays for just the same as us all. Just dont think once you have a sponsership its easy sailing cause its certainly not in my personal oppinion its harder but with the bonus of it being cheaper. thanks for taking time to read my views

Have to agree with Carpking. As a tester you are just that, a tester. You are given a bait untried, untested to go and try to catch carp. Your results and oppinions are used to perfect the bait. If the bait company has given you a bait where the attracters or aditives are too high the bait will be repellant and you will not catch. The company will then make adjustments, give you another load of bait and you try again. Once again you give your feedback to the company and the bait is further developed. Up to this point you may still not have caught any fish on your free bait. Once the bait is right and you start to catch effectivley, then you may get in the mags, unless ofcourse they then give the perfected bait to one of their more high profile anglers to promote
So you and other field testers have done your job, the next step is to do it all over again because there is another new bait to test. The bait may be free but you may well spend most of your season not catching
If you need confidence in your bait then field testing is not for you (or me) thats why we have to pay for it and those prepaired to take the risks get it for free
