winter prebaiting

Hey Guys

well back to the grind stone now xmas is out the way lol ...hope everyone managed to find sum time to get the rods out ..


anyways ...most people who know me are aware that i luv a bit a bait ... i have no problems is baitin with 5 kilos ETC for a 24 hour sesh if i think its needed ... but what i was interested in is ... how many of you prebait threw summer and continue threw winter ??? it seams to me that most dont !

as soon as the colder weather comes .. out go the singles an fluros ect .....

well for thoses people who do...... what sorta amount and how often do you prebait and what is your bait/feed made up of ???

see on sum of the winter waters i have fished most of the natural food dies off in winter .... the bottom becomes very barron ..... so i have always continued baitin in the cold months and have had sum good results ... just confuses me a lill as to why more poeple dont do it ????

EG

summer

10 anglers a week on a water .
5 kilos of bait each

= 50 kilos of bait each week for fish to feed on .


Then as october rolls round this will reduce to atleast 10 kilos { max}


so lookin at it from a fishes point if view .....

If I move i need energy...... if theres lill food i cant regain energy as quick as i can in the summer ...... so the answers simple ..... i wont move asmuch ,so i need to eat less... AND GET CAUGHT LESS


now imagin if your bait was goin in all threw ... this fish wud not have this dilema of Little food ???? now iam not sayin they will feed anywhere near as hard as they do in summer but as stated in many mags and vids .. keep the bait going in and keep them awake !!!!!



So why do very few people do this ???????

now if costs is an issue ..well ... baits more inportant than that new bit of tackle tart equipment you just spent £200 on lol .......... and the same with shelf life .... dont scrimp on the bait .......... just buy £50 rods instead of £150 ... they will catch the same fish ..

id love to pre-bait, but 2 hours drive is too far for me to pop up and do it so i just throw 4 of 5 hand fulls in when im leaving after a session and have to wait a week before I can return

I always thought that the fish's metabolism slowed down in the colder water and the reverse of what you are thinking actually happens. They don't move, don't need as much energy, and eat less
So if you fish over a lot of bait the chance that yours will get picked up is much less.

Now, if you are close enough to a water and can bait up constantly to keep the fish feeding throughout in one area then you should increase your chances. But like Man City says, this isn't possible for everyone.

Best to find out where Smokey is fishing over winter

I think what Smokeys sayin' is if you keep the bait going in over the winter months, it therefore keeps the fish active, thus them needing more bait due to the increase in their activity ie, searching for food etc. If there's none or hardly any bait going in, the fish slow down and probably do become more dormant, thus needing to eat less.

I've never found any difference in feeding habbits in the summer and winter months. If there willing to eat your bait they will, i used big beds of bait in the winter last year and i must say it worked a treat.

As far as pre-baiting goes i'd give it ago nothink wrong with priming a few spots in the winter months ready for the spring.

Don't disagree, just depends on what you think makes the fish inactive on your water - lack of food or their slowing down.
Have read some of Jim Shelley's articles and winter pre-baiting certainly works for him.

iam fishing a cannel.......... find ma spots i dare ya lol ..no iam not realy

see travelin a distance wudnt bother me ...if it took me 2 hours there an 2 hours back i wud still do it provided the rewards were in that water !!

but sayin that i suppose it depends on your situation ....

see i was out from xmas eve till jan 1st and in total i managed to get threw

2 gallons of maggs

5 kilos of Mainline

9 kilos of pellets

an about 6 kilos of dynamite mix


the results : hahaha


25 bream

2 roach - 2lb

and 2 lost carp grrrr

now is that alot of bait for you guys over winter or not ?????? see i wud have no problems in usin that amout of bait per week to pre bait with threw the winter .

yea mate ...lost 2 carp and had 25 bream ... and 2 roach up to 2lb .. o the 2 carp lost i must say were hooked at long range over 250 yards ......

no pls dont get me wrong iam not sayin that lack of bait slows the fish down all on its own .... i think we all know the main reasons for fish slowin in the colder months ... but i cant ignor the fact that keepin the bait goin in summer - winter is a far better approch than singles chucked here an there ......

it amazes me how so many people dont do any pre baitin what so ever surely people wana up there chances of catchin and shudnt mind puttin in the little extra work required . Now iam sorry but a handfull of bait b4 you leave on a sunday does not constitute pre baitin lol ....... well in my book anyways lol ..... your not controlin your area your simple discarding unwanted bait lol lol lol ......

see in winter i wud be down checking all of mine spots { 8 on my current water } atleast every 2nd day ... from doing this i can asses weather i need to up my bait quantity or drop it ...dependin on how much has gone ...... you also have to allow for wildlife .... no point putin in a few handfulls ... thats just to feed the birds lol lol ......

When i fished goldendale this year i was puttin in about 14kilos of bait each nite .... this was cleard by the mornin...only once did i return back and find bait still sittin there .....i had put the normal in the nite b4 and when i returned there was about 3kilos left ?? see in summer i bait most if not every nite .... sayin that i also fished most nites lol .... but this helped me to control baitin levels ...... as opposed to just turnin up chuckin a bucket a bait in and going then doin the same over an over ... this will catch fish but iam not sure its thebest way to control your baitin campaign ???? whats your thoughts ??????

do fish this water alone mate or with another angler ?????? see you could work it that you take it in turns each week .....


see if you could make a trip midd week to put sum bait in that wud help you .... also you can share the cost of petrol and time with your angling partner ????? you do one week he does the other ..... ???? if not get in with a local angler and see if he wud do sum baitin for you .... iam sure he wudnt mind splittin the cost of bait etc for sum better results .... just a thought

I got through several gallons of Vodka, a few bottles of Pino, 4 brunettes (3 of which I'll admit to! Growler!) 1 pair of sodden jeans, 8 Subway sandwiches and escaped a foot chase from the boys in blue!(bless their little fat body armour wearing bodies!)

and the catch report! I caught a cold of sorts!

So, did anyone get that white christmas they wished for?


Oh, I did buy approx 30K of mainline for the '07 campaign on 'that' canal!
