Default Bulk hemp

Paul,

If you can drive to Market Drayton then there is a very good pet store on the Shrewsbury Road about 500m from the Muller factory.

There stock is always very clean, well packaged etc.

About £17 per 25kilo.

How long does hemp stay fresh for once its been prepared if its not kept in a fridge/freezer? Going for a weeks fishing down in Suffolk at the end of the month and i want to take a fair bit of hemp with me but my Uncle who i'm staying with unfortunately doesn't have the fridge space for me to store a load of prepared hemp, and i dont want to have to spend a fortune on the tinned stuff!!

Cheers.

Hi James, i have always found hemp to be ok for weeks and weeks providing all the grains are covered in liquid and the container is 100% air tight. Look at dynamite bait's jars of hemp - on tackle shop shelves for weeks at a time, air tight and moist they will be fine mate.

dynamite hemp is cooked in the sealed up jars in a simlar way to tinned food that is why it keeps for so long. i would not keep cooked hemp any longer than 3 or 4 days in any state exept frozen.i have found the liquid starts to sour after this time and the hemp starts to go off.

I've always thought fresh was best but recently seen a lad use a bucket of hemp that had been left to 'mature' for months. It absolutely reaked but the fish, which are normally quite cagey, were straight on it. Certainly got me thinking....

As said earlier, you can't go wrong with a local pidgeon feed supplier. Around 65p/kg, you save on p&p and it's decent stuff.

Do you reckon it'd stay fairly fresh if i kept it in buckets and put a freezer pack in each bucket overnight?

hemp should be used up within a couple of days or freeze it , it starts to turn after 3-4 days otherwise

i remember on korda underwater carp fishing part 1 danny fairbrass makes a stick mix and the day after he casts out and you can see the hemp rising to the top, is this because there is no liquids in the stickmix?, if it was left in all its natural juices and was wet for a few days it would be fine or would it still start to float??
