Default artificial baits...."what"

ive never used fake baits and never will...but the other day i was collecting some supplies from the local supplier of all things fishy and i over heard this guy raving about this fake bait he uses...IMO i wounldnt feel confident at all casting a wooden ball in the water...even if it has been soaked in the best flavouring money can buy...

do they really work ? they must do...but i just dont get it...ok im not completely dumb...wooden ball will absorb flavour...but wont this release once in water pretty quick and just leave...well...! a piece of wood...

can anyone tell me why these baits work so well...? thanx

Fished a water until last year with a real crayfish problem, wooden balls were used on there as imitation boilies to prevent crays from breaking them up so they do work.

I think the general consensus of opinion as to why artificials work is that they stimulate the carps curiosity, and when they go to check it out, as they have only got their mouth to see if its food or not, if they sample it there's a good chance of it getting hooked. Obviously it's only a theory as you cannot ask a carp why it picked it up, but they do work.

ok i understand the attack on baits by the likes of crayfish...

but im still not getting why a fake bait is chosen over a real bait...surely when the people who use artificial baits on the hook/hair you bait up with real loose feed...so whats the point...i was looking on the net at some artificial tiger nuts...and they definatly are very well made, they look exactly the same...so why not just use the real thing...? what gives you the confidence in these methods...?

i use plastic corn a bit with a piece of real corn , the thing is little fish or big ones will sometimes suck all the inner out of a piece of real stuff and leave you with just a shell but if you have a piece of plastic corn with it you still have a reasonable piece of bait
thats my theory anyway and ive had some belting fish on plastic ,i find its also good fished with a small pellet and if your pellet dissolves before you bait up again then at least you,ve got something on your rig !

The artificial baits in majority of cases tend to float, so fake corn or nuts can be fished popped up and withstand small fish nibbling away. Can also be fished along with real bait for a slow sinking or balanced presentation.

A piece of fake corn can be fished with a boilie for visual attraction along with the attraction/flavours of boilie, a lot of fish are caught on this.

The fake breadflake for me is one of the best, fished just pooped up in waters where birds get fed or on a method feeder.

Give them a go on one rod, might be surprised with the results

This is what gives me the confidence in fake baits.

Every one of these fish was taken on fake corn popped up.

If it was not for my mate telling me about plastic fantastic i would never have bothered but im glad i did
