You could try wrapping a cork ball in paste and boiling it,or get some of the cylindrical cork/foam, drill your boilie and insert the required amount(only works with larger firm baits.others will split).

I would say 2mins max, enough to form a skin so the paste doesn't dissolve while fishing.

I tried the microwave method and wasn't happy with the results .
Have you tried making your own pop ups Mancity,I've used the Richworth pop up base mix before, just had a look and they make a fishmeal base and others in dayglo colours so you dont have to bother buying your own colouring.
Or you could knead some cork dust into your paste, then roll, boil and airdry to use as critically balanced hookbaits.

Corkball pop ups - required for stiff rigs and not much else.

Method 1 - Make up you base mix and flavours and add some egg albium. pinch off a small amount, flatten, place cork ball in middle and roll by hand till its round. Boil for about 2 mins, repeat 50 times. Lash in a pot with some salmon oil after drying for a night and your done.

Method 2 - Ring Lee at hookers and order any base mix/flavour combo you want and await arrival. Not cheap though but a time saving brilliance!

Yeh Lee at hookers is the man, as mentioned not cheap but excellent for hookbaits.
