They are like a bigger, sweeter version of a tare. Soak them in water overnight (if you wish to add a flavour like molasses put that in at this stage and they 'drink' it in as thet hydrate) To cook - bring to boil and then simmer until they can be 'squished' between the fingers....fish 2-3 on a hair. If you want them darker than normal add some bicarboate of soda at the cooking stage.

I bag and freeze them down....but if you leave them out they go gooey in their own juices after a few days and this is the way I lke to use them. Beyond this though they start to ferment and go off.

Good for Tench apparently but do not let that put you off. I was using them a lot on Redesmere as feed for the Bream and accidently hooked two carp.

What do you consider a reasonable price ? Arent those jars £6.99 ?

I take it you mean for one of those Dynamite 'jars' ?

are you aware that to buy that quantity of maples would cost you
approx 45p ? Im sorry but i dont see that sort of mark up on a simple product as reasonable !

Well they have to buy the maples, soak and boil them (taking time and labour) then sort them into the jars the bought, then label them. Then sell them too a tackle shop who then sells them to you. Oh and maybe make some money while there at it.

Not all cheap processes either as there not done on a big scale in industrial terms. Coke cans are made on a large scale, dynamite maple peas arent.

If you have got the time do it yourself.

If you can find the blooming things. All the places I used to buy them no longer seem to keep them in stock (must be because they are not as popular any more)

A bait used by many people as a alternative, for the simple reason there not used much anymore.

Does this make them good? or just an alternative which is less effective than the norm?
