Generally use stringers/pva bags Shaun as where i fish you don't need a lot to bring them round. Saying that i only fished 3 times last winter with buying the house and that, same as you!

Default winter baiting

This depends on where you're fishing during the winter....how many fish in the water etc. I have just used single hookbaits and a stringer and caught, then I have also used 2-300 boilies with a pop up over the top and caught. Also on an easy singles/doubles water that I have fished I have spodded out pellets and caught a lot of little uns. I think they still have a feed during the winter...its just knowing when the conditions are right...not an easy task....I reckon that stocking density is probably one of the most important factors to consider as well as if there has been bait going in during the winter

Depends on the water. But I usually fish single popups or stringers in the winter.
I dont use solid bags in the winter as i worry about them not dissolving in the water.

why not trying your bags in the margin first mate if possible that will give you a idea, the deeper the margins the more accurate reading you will get depending on how deep your fishing at your chosen venue.
