I think the most i have ever used in a session is probably only about 2 kilo, thats boilies, particles and groundbait.
I was shocked to read that people are using 10 and 20k at a time!!!
(Steve, LOL)

I find myself questioning; are there any major benefits to baiting up with 20 kilo as opposed to 2 kilo? Does it really make that much difference?

Surely if there is a few kilo in then it will do the job, wont it???

To start with when i say 20KG that is the cooked weight...............not the dry weight of particles............When spodding pellet i would use no more than 5kg max and that would be if i was expecting quantities of fish.

I suppose it depends on your methods and approach.........i often put inexcess of that amount in on certain venues, to lay down a large area to encourage free feeding for the fish whilst im not there..........with continuous bait application over time this method will create a 'natural' feeding zone for fish, they will be feeding freely for more days over it than when there are hookbaits on it............... fish will often start to feed for shorter periods of time in the swim , but make far more visits to feed, often bringing other fish in with them............

Have you ever seen a 20kg bed of particle in a lake ? It looks very little in reality

If the fish want it then i'll give it to em.

A number of carp can clear out a few kg's of bait in a matter of a minute or two, especially when they are up for a good nosh

Im sure it isnt actually that much on the bottom of the lake and as steve says i can well believe that if the carp are hungry they will clear it up but it just sounded alot to me, each to there own though, its all about whatever methods you catch best with aint it.

Yes Blue, cost me a small fortune in the end. However it did work and I reckon I weened the carp into a certain area of the lake to feed. I began by baiting this long 6 acre lake up at both ends choosing 2 areas at each end from february when I reckoned a bit of bait would wake them up for the spring feed. After 8 weeks I stopped putting the bait in the 2 spots at the one end and just favoured the last 2 areas with loose feed for the next month. Results were instant!
