Default Personal baits

Im sure that some of you make your own baits, just wondered how many of you use your own flavoured baits, did you design them yourself, you know, like invent your own secret flavour??? Im not asking what flavours, just wondereing if you have tried your own flavours and caught fish as i'm thinking of giving it a try. It must be proper satisfying to make your own flavour and catch fish on a bait that absolutely no one else is using

Not quite sure what you mean there Johnny Do you mean create your own flavor from scratch or buy a flavor or two and mix them together. Ive not been brave enough to totally create one from scratch, but Ive bought plenty of flavors in the past.

The one that sticks in my mind for being the most successful is Nash's 'mega tutti fruit', mixed with 'sting fish mix', awesome bait! Another that I liked was Nash's 'Big strawberry' mixed with 'Amber attractor' base mix.

It is satisfying when you catch on your own bait. The only trouble is though if your not 100% sure on the flavor your using, your confidence is not quite there with the bait. Once I found a flavor I was happy with Id stick with it, as opposed to chopping and changing every couple of weeks or so just in case there was a better one out there, when in reality there isn't really.

With a lot of todays modern baits, if your thinking of making them yourself, you only really need to buy the base mix and matching liquid flavor. It's only if you want to take them one step further and really personalise them that you can start adding extra flavors/essential oils etc, which isn't a bad idea if the bait has been done to death, just makes them a bit different.

i do,

i started making my own bait a few months back and since i have i have never looked back! You're right mate, there is nothing better than catching fish on a bait you made yourself and catching on a bait you made makes it feel like all the hartd work and time spent rolling it was worth it.

it doesn't have to be rocket science to create a bait which i significantly different to what is available commercially, all i do is start with a base mix ahich has a matching liquid (this take sthe leg work out of combining attarctors that you do not will work together or not) and then tweak the mix with a few bits and bobs that make it ideal for where you are fishing.

The first time i went out with my new bait i had two takes within two hours of putting it in, now i can tell that that was one of the most rewarding feelings you will get from your fishing!

I generally let other people get 'bait headaches' for me.
It's just too much expense and hassle finding ingredients and then tweaking baits..
I always add my own touches such as powdered attractors.. GLM, liver powder , robin red, paprika etc..

As far as flavours / labels go I use combinations..
I've used the same one for years now and I can't see me changing..

Well actually I do use different ones for attractor baits ( singles / pop ups etc ) but for my main bait it's only tweaked to suit venue or individual fish If I think they have a particular preference..

I meant experimenting with existing flavours mate, mixing a couple together as you say. Nice one for the examples though, worth a try me thinks

Rolling table and bait gun. When you buy the bait gun it should come with nozzles of various sizes eg 10mm, 12mm, 15mm etc, you'll just need a matching bait table to roll out your boilies.

Alternatively, you don't need either, if you want to be a bit different, just mix you base mix flavors etc into a firm paste, take a orange size ball from the main lump, roll out flat (roughly 10mm thick) with a rolling pin, and chop up into cubes and boil. A lot easier and quicker than rolling with table and gun, and is just that little bit different from everyone else (maybe! ) The only down side is they don't fire out as far as round baits.

Cheers mate, i've always brought boillies so maybe its time for a change and make my own, if only to compare the price and maybe the catch results.

Are these rolling tables and guns easy to use and not too pricey?

Yea, simple to use really, just squeeze out a length of paste so it fits across the rolling table. Then you place the top half of the roller on it and roll left and right a couple of times. After a few goes you'll get the hang of it. You've just got to be a bit careful to get the consistency right with the mix, to wet and it sticks to the roller, to dry and it's a pain to roll and often crumbles. It's best to make it wetter and add to it, rather than make it to dry and ruin the mix. As with everything, practice makes perfect

As for prices, you can pay as little or as much as you like, at a guess Id say you could get a cheap gun for around £12-15, and tables about the same. Not looked lately really. Probably worth just getting the basics first just to see if you prefer to make your own or you'd rather buy frozen. It's a bit of a 'labour of love' really, but I get huge satisfaction catching with my own baits, even if it is a bit of a pain making 'em.

We designed our own bait but as we wanted 100's of kilos every 6 month or so we have had to get a rolling company to do it for us.

They're happy with that, just give them the details and measures of every ingrediant and there you go.

Were on out 6th batch now and the conststancey is brilliant.
