Default fishing pop ups

hi lads just wondering if anyone can give me tips on fishing double popups.
a m8 of mine makes some brilliant pop ups but they are extremely bouyant, i have had success fishing them on their own and as part of a snowman set up.
the problem i have is he makes a couple of really good varietys of pop ups but not bottom baits to go with them ,what i would like to do is fish the 2 pop ups together on their own but as i have said they are really bouyant and i think the weight needed to counteract this will be very heavy, does anyone think that this weight would put the fish off?

As long as the counter weight is only heavy enough to just sink the pair of pop-ups (critically balanced) then you should have no problems whatsoever mate. In fact you should see results start to get better, just spend the time to get the weight exactly right, good luck.

I've done really well in the past using a swan shot to hold the pop up down. This completely overbalances the pop up but seems to help with the hooking potential. It does however look very strange.

if i where fishin over a bed of bait then i would go for the critically balanced bait so that if a fish is mouchin around it will waffed around in and amongst your bed of bait but if i was fishin a single or with a few freebies then i would go more for the heavier weight to help the hook set.

Another one to try would be to fish them straight off the lead, I've had success fishing singles this way on short (3-4") hooklengths.

Alternativly you could try adding lead wire by pushing some lead wire into the hook baits to ballance them out better without the need for large split shot/putty ect it depends on what sort of rig you are using and what you are trying to achive.

Try putting some split shot on the hair so the popups just sink. Perfect balanced hookbaits (IMO) without messing around with leadwire.

Russ try pushing small bits of lead wire into the baits to make them less boyant, the bait never gets eaten so it wont harm the fish.

it would if the bait came off and a bird ate it.

Wrap the lead wire around the hook, works well and looks better than split shot. Cover with shrink sleave if you are worried it will come off and harm the fish
