i have caught many fish straight out of the bag so to speak however depending on the water and funds i may use a glug as for chopping them up tend to look for the miss shapes as theres norm a few in a bag and make an interesting different shape! fooled may a fish for me!

Hookbaits out of the bag will catch plenty of carp but what works best is probably water specific. If you think your results are not what they should be then experiment, or if others are catching a lot more than you in general and you have been on the fish take a look at the other hookbait options. Critically balanced baits or 'wafters' as they are commonly termed, out and out pop ups, glugged hookbaits or high attract pop ups or bottoms are some options if you are boilie fishing.I don't think there is a general rule for all fish and all waters or even two different sessions on the same water...some days they have pop ups some days glugged some days straight out of the bag.....its just another one of the puzzles fishing can throw at us

Gotta agree with Deano on this one, what catches one day might not work the next. I tend to fish with different hookbaits on each rod, and then through trial and error find what the fish are showing a preference for that day and stick it on both.

95% straight out of the bag, sucessful for me, if its not working its because im fishing the wrong area not because of some super dupa glug.
Sometimes fish slow sinkers and pop ups but only due to the bottom chod/deep silt/weed
