Default How long would you steam boilies (or steamies lol) for

Can somebody who steams or has steamed in the past, boilies please tell me if they have any guidelines for how long baits need to be steamed.

Bought a steamer for 4 quid and thought it might be worth a go to compare with boilies

For anybody interested, after over an hours searching and trawling t'internet, I have found that about 8-10 minutes should be about right ............

Gonna take a while per batch

I've not heard of 'steamies' before.

Any clues what the benefits over standard boiled baits are? (other than to get around a bait ban). Does it change the texture or strength of the bait?

Mike.

I believe it makes the baits a lot harder than when you boil 'em.

I was under the impression they were softer . Not too sure on that one though

Its supposed to help retain the flavour and attractors rather than boiling and spoiling them.

Have heard of alot of people going this way now so maybe there's something in it .

Just add egg albumin mate and then you might get away a 30 second boil...I never boil for longer than 1 minute and my baits are pretty tough

Im not trying to harden my baits . Its the keeping flavours and attractors part that appeals, so I thought id give it a go.

I thought it was the time you dried them for that determined how hard they were anyway?

Ive never boilied a bait more than 60 seconds

I guessed you were after a softer bait mate... But just boil em for 30 secs and see what they are like they wont lose much with that and it saves all that messing around steaming, which IMO is a fad...

Makes sense to me mate as theres no liquid to take away the attractors plus they are not coming into contact with the boiling water. I think you may have to experiment for a bit until you get it right but its def worth a go infact am gonna try it myself! Spot on for a good idea!

Well like I said mate In read on nutsaboutcarp.com/baits that they take 8-10 minutes, so just gonna try them for 6 minutes (as they look on the site like 18mm baits ) and pull a few out to check.

Worth a try even if just the once I think

If your after baits that leak a lot more just try leaving half the mix to air dry no boil or steam and boil the rest. then introduce the baits you want to say half air dried half normal....will give you baits with different leakage and the air dried ones will be hard enough to pult out if left for 24hrs...

In stead of steaming your baits. There is another way. Think "boil in the bag curry".

Lay your baits out nice and flat in a quick zip freezer bag, using your mums vac suck out all the air so as the bait stay put, Just like them storeage bags you see on tv. Pop them in the burco, You will have to play about with boiling times.

You can work out the rest.

Bud

P.s How to harded baits with out denurturing additives. oops,

I would have to question the binding properties of lactabumin, it is high in protein content as high as 90% if my memory serves me right, egg albumin is better at binding, but lactalbumin do`s have its uses, expensive.
