Hi,

Was fishing at the weekend on a bolt rig and didnt realise I had a carp on until I reeled in at the end of the session. My alarms were working fine as was my bait runner. Anyone else had any crazy experiences on bolt rigs or is it just me?

This may sound bizarre but it could have been a case of you reeling in, and at the same time the carp took the bait in, thus you having a carp on!

It can happen though that the carp can be hooked, then move off left or right and not register on your alarms. It's one of them though mate, I guess you'll never really know what happened. Generally though, as the name suggests, the 'Bolt' rig is designed to make the fish bolt on feeling the resistance of the lead. But, until the fish do feel the resistance, there's every chance the fish could have been sitting there, sucking and blowing trying to eject the hook, but thats another discussion........

I had a high double common last year that did the same sort of thing when i had it from the Margins..

I only realised what was happening when i looked at my rod tip.!! It was hooked but wouldnt charge off..surprised me as i use very short hook links with a 3oz inline.!! The fish had taken up the the slack line but that was as far as it was going for now.!!
My Delk was fine and the sensitivity was up there but no alarm response..i wondered if the fish was to bothered scothing and didn't realised it had been hooked

watch the korda dvds,it shows you how far you can move a semi fixed lead set up without even getting 1 bleep on your alarm.running rigs all the way for me!unless im fishing a weedy venue,then it lead clips,with the rubber only pushed on a couple of mm.

had this before, was fishing a very silty lake using helicopter rigs and long lengths of a fairly supple braid. had couple bleeps in the night, went to recast them a couple of hours later...fish on!

once had rod nearly pulled outa my hand after casting,was just about 2 place it on the alarm. 9 pound common was the culprit hooked fair n square on a chik pea.

running rigs all the way for me, unless other circumstances dictate, ie weed, deep silt.
