Caenmatt, other than the sound advice thats been given so far, if you can, try and upload a pic of the rigs you've been using so we can see what they look like, it may help some of the lads and lasses help you out that little bit more pal

another thing to bear in mind is to not be to heavy handed when getting the fish out of the weed.

keep steady pressure on but be gentle with no sudden movements and they should just pop out eventually still hooked.

Good luck with it mate

If your worried about them spooking off the rig mate, don't! If you had 6 runs, it's nothing visual, it's one of a few other factors you need to play around with by the sounds of it, and you practically answered your own question by saying about the Korda wide gape hook sorting it out for you.

The only other thing you mentioned was that your rigs are falling apart! You sure their falling apart or are you being cut off on something? Sounds to me like you need to beef up a bit on your hooklink and hooks if you fishing near weed or pads etc. Try a thicker gage hook perhaps, as you say, a wide gape Fox or Korda sounds ideal. You may also need to lengthen or shorten your hooklink, it's all part of the fun (or frustration, depends how you look at it!) with rigs, eventually you'll come across a set up your happy with though

barbless hooks
theres your reason mate !!!

barbless hooks, in fish, in weed, itll be much easier for the fish to slip the hook

i fished greymist in warrington when it was full of canadian pond weed .once in the weed the fish shed the hook fairly easy

you would lose more than you landed !!!! same at our local lake its full of lillies if they make it into them odds are there shedding the hook on barbless hooks .all you can do is keep the pressure on and hope they dont come off

nothing wrong with your rigs mate there getting the runs in the first place so.............................

sound advice lads some top north west angler once said to me on sale water park in 1985ish " THE DUMBEST QUESTION IS THE ONE YOU NEVER ASK " so never be afraid to ask the next guy bivvied up to as no one knows it all!

stig mate, the palomar knot mate in simple laymans! through eye once then double back through eye, then simple overhand knot BUT DONT PULL TIGHT YET! with the little loop at end put it over the hook/ swivel wet with saliva then PULL TIGHT! hope that helps matey

dodge!

Try using stiff rigger hooks, and steaming it over the kettle and then pulling tight, this takes the kinks out... and using stiff rigger hooks by ESP means the stiff florocarbon will not knink near the eye because with most hooks like korda wide gapes they have got in turned eyes but with stiff riggers they have got outturned eyes so they do not damage the line, a bit of shrink tube on it and but a kink in it and you will be fine.

yeh steaming floro can sometimes damage it. strect it and rub you fingers up and down it. this will aplay enough heat to straighten any kinks!

Default fluro carbon rigs

make sure if you are using knottless knot on fluro rigs to check the hook link material around the eye of the hook after each take, i have found it to sometimes stretch and kink. weakenin the material. or change the rig on every take as the carp gods insist on. k.i.s.s keep it simple stupid
