What species are you fishing for, carp?
The takes can be more violent, so be next to your rods. You won't know where snags are, but the fish will.
You can't conceal your line on the bottom, (well you can if using 2 or 3 backleads), and your rods will be pointing upwards to counteract any flow,
you may need heavier leads for the same reason.
Any free bait you put in may quickly move downstream in the current.
Travel light and be prepared to move swims.
Better still, if no one else is about, walk upstream baiting several swims, then fish at the last one and work your way back.

use decent line. make sure your knots are well tied and do not try to bully the fish too much. tire it out and dont try to net it as soon as its within netting range. as someone said. if your not used to river fishing keep your eye on your rod and never leave it for a second. you will get some violent knocks and then the rod will go bye byes.

never actually fished for carp on the river, lol, but thats what its like for barbel.

if your close to it, church deeps in preston on the ribble is a well known carp spot

The water moves either left to right or right to left. Thats about in really. If you fall in wearing waders your dead. If you dont like swans your f8cked. But if you want to put three rods out on a nice shiney pod with matching buzzers, hangers, reels with handles folded in all nice and level then you will love it.

Ever seen Hugh Falkus in his 1977 film about sea-trout fishing, "Salmo the Leaper", deliberately throw himself into a river whilst fully-dressed and wearing waders?
Very instructional.

And not remotely fatal.
