nothing like a water like big billinge to start your carping on lol... moody aint the word from what i gather!

best bet would be to get in with some of the regs, see what they are up to and offer them plenty of tea and biscuits !!

roving approach.. small bags cast freuqently.. get a decent feel for the water etc.. do your homework, watch the water, so many things in such a small amount of time lol

best of all.. dont get disheartened with the blanks

I wouldn't even put a rod in till I new what I was fishing over. Marker rod out spend a week atleast. Find some nice clear/hard spots and fill it in with bait lol.

Like what chesh says so much to say so little time!!

I think there's a little important factor before going down that road...look for the fish.!!! If you cant find them and unable to get knowledge from regulars consider weather conditions and where they would hold up....while it's mild you should be able to get a good idea. Then you can look at the area with regards to presenting a bait...
No point filling in a spot when the fish are down the bottom end of the lake

Hi

would you not have been better starting with an easy runs water?

Caprman,

For your own sanity and possibly the fishes welfare, I'd seriously consider Cypry's advice and maybe have a crack at an easier water. Fishing a runs water will enable you to try out different tactics and methods and refine your fishing. Oh yeah, it might also be a damned good laugh too. Concentrate on enjoying your fishing and getting a few carp under your belt (irrespective of their size). Although I target bigger fish somtimes I still love fun sessions catching smaller fish. Why wouldn't you - they're good fun, make your alarms go 'beep' and put a bend in your rod!

Coupled with this, if you're new to carping, there is much to learn about fish care. Yes, you learn about fish care with all species, but when you get a decent sized carp on the bank going ape, you need to have the confidence and ability to deal with it swiftly to ensure the carp's safety.

Billinge has some clonking fish in it, but is not the easiest water around. Hats off to you for giving it a go, but what happens when you bag yourself a big fish from there? Sure, it'll be exillerating when it happens, but where will your carp fishing career go to from there? If your first carp (caught fishing on proper tackle, none of these elasticalised poles) is a big fish, then where is there left to go?

There's more to this game than Ib's and oz's. Have a break from banging your head on the Billinge wall and get yourself somewhere easy for a bit of fun. Billinge isn't going to vanish - and the big fish will only get bigger if you spend a bit of time away from the place.

Tight lines,

Mike.
