Question How many rods

Every Carp angler I know seems to fish 3 rods.
Whats the thought behind this as if youve got 2 licences surely you couldfish 4 rods.

Most waters only allow a max of 3 rods.
Quite a lot only allow a max of two rods, stoke on trent AS , prince albert, lymm anglers and horseshoe - all only two rods

Theres your answer - next.

It's fun playing 2 fish at the same time, probably not so funny trying to play 3 fish at once, I dread to think how anyone could manage 4 on the go.....alone.

This thread seems familiar, what goes around comes around.

You can use 3 rods on some of the waters owned by Stoke-On-Trent AS and Lymm AC.

Some clubs only allow 2 or 3 and some allow 4 I fish 4 whenever the rules allow it and I make sure I have 2 Licences. I have in the past fished Canals and Rivers that are not controlled by any club etc and have used 4 Rods and had a visit from the EA and never had a problem as I had the Licences.

Thanks guys.
Ive got 4 rods and 2 licences myself and theres no restrictions on the waters I currently fish.
I've never had 2 runs at the same time and whilst it could happen I recon the chances of 2 or more similtaneously would be slim.
I wasnt sure if fishing 3 rods was something to do with covering the water without putting too much pressure on, but as you say its more often down to the water restrictions which I hadnt considerd.
Makes it prity pricey to fish one extra rod then on some waters!

As has been said before, fly fishermen and match anglers can only fish one rod, and their licences allow the use of two.

Nothing quite like having two 20 pound carp in one landing net at the same time, as happened to me once on Crabmill.

On another (easy) water Nr. Sandbach, it's not unusual to have 2 fish on at once.(only 2 rods allowed).

On yet another local water about 2 months ago, I saw an angler playing 2 at once, after a friend helped with 1 fish, his 3'rd rod was away..........jammy git.

I personally like to fish 2 carp rods and use a 3'rd rod for catching roach etc.
I only use 3 carp rods when fishing at night, and no danger of even 2 going off at once as I rarely fish that type of water, and certainly not at night.

Unless you are a long way from any other angler, I think 3 rods is adequate.

Manager, you might be able to help me in my quest to become a better carper.
I work in stafford so drive down the m6 and back most days from Preston.
You mentioned above an easy water near Sanbach.
Is it a day ticket and could you PM me the location?

I tend to just use 2 carp rods and very occasionally a 3rd for just mucking about with some silverfish. At the moment I can't justify buying a 3rd proper carp set up, not when it's costing 50% more for petrol to bloody get to the venues anyway.

If you didn't turn up for the occaisional work party, I wouldn't even know you were even in a club.

Been into a Chinese chippie lateley? What do you reply when they ask "sore finger?"

Grifter, your profile says you live in Wigan, but you work in Stafford and drive to Preston most days.

I hope you don't have to buy your own fuel.

Sorry, all 3 waters that I mentioned are within a mile or so of Sandbach town centre, but none are day ticket.

lol.
Companies base is in Leyland (Nr Preston) and the main contract I look after is in Stafford. I also look after contracts in Anglesey, Warrington & Shropshire so yes I do clock up the miles, and yes I have to pay for the fuel myself and then reclaim it.
