I use 15lb Braid on me spod.
With it being low diameter I'v found I can can achive a greater distance and do it easier than with mono, just My opinion I use a 30lb armacorde shockie with the set up - never had any probs, however... If I forget to soak the spool before casting it's wind knott hell

I've found a good combination for spodding to be 20lb whiplash crystal clear and the the same in 65lb for the shockleader. This braid is coated and therefore doesn't need to be wet as with the standard whiplash/braids. It's virtually also impossible to sink which helps out with the spodding.

Default Spodding

Floating pro whiplash 20lb with a short armakord 30lb leader has never let me down, regular spodding 130 yards and not lost any gear to date touch wood but saying that you can get a spod 100 yards on any line from 12lb or so its all about your casting technic, as for mono compressing the rod more I've never heard such rubbish everyone knows you get better compression on low stretch lines eg braid, the stretch of mono as you release reduces the speed of your rig in flight hence affecting your distance, make sure if you use pro whiplash braid you wet it by dipping your reel in water before spodding this will prevent any nasty wind knots.
