A century……..not quite !!!

Nigel Knapp and Steve (Noddy) finished very happy anglers indeed having caught 99 carp between them for their week. They both arrived with the hope that they could catch a 30lb fish apiece during their week but never anticipated a catch that included a 43.12 common plus a further 12 over 30lb’s. Back this up with 49 x 20+ carp as well as 37 doubles and you can see why they felt it was a week to remember. Some nice commons showed with Steve bagging a new pb at 43lb 12oz and Nigel having a brace at 37lb’s and 36lb’s. In fact Nigel had 7 double takes with the best pair landed of 32 and 27lb. Good fishing coupled with settled weather certainly ensured that a good catch was on the cards and even the cold Northerly wind failed to dampen things with plenty of fish coming throughout the daylight hours. Once again the carp were in superb condition and gave a great account or themselves once hooked and it was really difficult to gauge whether it was a good 30lb fish or a high double until the fish was in the net. Another pleasing factor is that of the 20+ carp landed at least half can be expected to have reached the 30lb mark by next spring augering well for the fishing in 2009. With another month to go this season we are hoping a few of the big mirrors grace the bank and perhaps we will see another 40+ common or two also.
