I do worry about preservatives and any additions that we put into foods for humans, and the fish. I would much rather avoid High Preservative and Junk food for me as well, so I tend to buy fresh and cook my own meals rather than eat Take-Outs or Microwave Instant Meals.
Look at the way of preserving foods in the past, Smoking, Drying or curing. In most cases Natural Preservatives

I know that Humans and Carp are different, but we all have a requirement for Nutrition. Some Preservatives and additives have been found to be having strange effects on us. My children go "hyper" after drinking certain Juice/Squash concentrates. If we eat a diet of too much Red Meat we put ourselves at risk of certain cancers (supposedly), too many High Fat Oils may cause obesity and Liver/Kidney damage, high cholesterol etc. Even an excess of Salt can be a risk (adding onto my worry of the current fashion of Curing Baits in Salt)

I try not to use Preservatives in any quantity in Baits I make up. I would rather Air Dry them and know that they are the same make up as my Frozen Baits, the only difference is that they are rock hard, and will take on water more quickly.

Yet I have been known to use Shelf Lifes as Instant Baits, but in far less quantities than Frozen/Air Dried which I pre-bait with. The Shelfies more as a Sweet than as a meal.
