Default Week 5 catch results

The week ended with the carp feeding once again after their hectic spawning activity in the early part. The weather has settled to warm and sunny with the odd passing cloud and very little wind and signs of feeding carp are to be seen all over the lake. Strange how a week can start so dismally and finish in such fine form. Regular visitor Paul fishing ‘Sams’ swim, and often fishing just nights, did very well indeed and finished with 27 carp to his own rods including 7 over 30lb’s and 2 over 35lbs. A great feat in difficult conditions. Father and son Frans and Koen from Holland are also doing well fishing the shallows from ‘The Sanctuary’ and so far (they are on a monday to monday trip) they have amassed 24 carp between them.

Total for the week is 63 carp broken down as follows -

35lb - 40lb, 3 carp.

30lb - 35lb, 6 carp.

25lb - 30lb, 15 carp.

20lb - 25lb, 21 carp.

15lb - 20lb, 9 carp.

10lb - 15lb, 9 carp.

There was also a small sturgeon caught.

As mentioned in an earlier post many of the fish are at spawned out weights and in some case are exhibiting the odd scrape or lost scale as a result of spawning activity. Hopefully in a month all these marks will have healed and the carp will be back to their best. One thing is puzzling is that most of the bigger carp have yet to show up in catches this year so we are not certain whether they have spawned or not. Time will tell.
