Hello everyone what a wonderful Spring we are
having. The weather has brought out lots of anglers to enjoy some sport. Here
is the fishing report.
Main Lake (Carp)
What a cracking week we had. As you all know David
Coup caught a lovely 39lb 8oz common from peg 24/25 last week. (Photie sent last
week to you all). This fish has caused quite a stir and I am waiting with
baited breath for a 40plus to emerge. As you all know a 40lb 8oz was caught by
Chris Boyle some time ago but sadly this was not verified by one of our
staff. We do have a photograph of this catch. We now have a ruling that all
fish over 30lb must be photographed and verified by one of our bailiffs. David
Coup's tactic was a small bed of corn and hemp with a homemade boilie on a short
hair rig with a long hook link. There have been lots of other carp caught
also. Mark Richardson caught a nice 29lb mirror from the dam wall using a
single boilie with a few loose baits. Successful pegs have been 24/25, 71/72,
61/62 and the dam wall. Other carp caught were as follows: 10lb grass, 17lb
mirror, 13lb koi, 11lb grass, 13lb common, 15lb common. On Monday when I was on
duty in the office we had a carp angler on site who fishes all over the world.
He popped in to have a look around. He came back into the office and said he had
seen about 30 carp basking on the top of the water. He said that he would be
coming on to fish this week and hoped he lands a nice fish. I will keep you all
posted.
Doughnut Lake (Pleasure)
Again good results from this lake. Mr. Taylforth
recorded a nice 50lb bag of fish using pole with paste over pellet with a size
16 hook. Other anglers have reported bags of 20 to 30lb, whilst some anglers
struggle to get through small silvers into the bigger fish.
Main Lake (Pleasure)
Still on top form with Jack and Bob (two of our
regulars) catching 40lb bags of skimmers and silvers. Both anglers fished round
the 40 yard mark. Ryan our resident trainee fisheries manager fished and caught
a nice 97lb bag of bream and skimmers. Ryan was using feeder tactics. He
prebaited his swim with ringers dark and special ground bait along with chopped
worm caster and pinkies used as offerings on the hook. Ryan used a hook link
(b911 kamasan) and a 3 foot leader.
Fly Lake
A little up and down at present. Cats whisker,
buzzers and damsel are getting the best results. With the weather getting
warmer the rainbows and the browns tend to go into deeper water. However, early
morning, and evening is seeing flies fished just under the surface. Here are
the averages.

GENERAL
Philip and I keep getting asked by a number of
people if the fisheries is for sale. We have always tried to be as open and
honest as we can. So I would like to try and explain the current situation to
you via this email. Originally the fisheries was bought as a family
consortium. Some of you may recall that Sue and Tony lived on site in the
company house up until a year ago. Tony and Sue decided to retire last year and
to move back to the south of England. At that time we had sold the fisheries
and two days before we were due to sign contracts the would be purchaser (for
whatever reason) decided not to proceed. In the end Philip and I decided that
we would look after the fishery and continue talks with other interested
parties. In effect, we are 'caretakers' and whilst we want to carry on with all
the good work and effort that has been put into the fisheries, we are mindful
that we cannot do it forever. We would like to think that some day we will find
a safe home for the fisheries, and perhaps someone that will take the fisheries
and make it even better than it is today. Whilst we have not appointed an
estate agent or the like, there are some details about the fisheries posted on
the businesses for sale website, so that interested parties can get at the basic
information. Our staff know that we cannot carry on forever and are aware that
we are often approached from time to time by interested parties.
Well folks its Bank Holiday this weekend coming
(lets hope the goode weather continues) I look forward to seeing some of you on
the banks.
best wishes
