Pendle View Fishing Report for Weekending 25th July 2006

Jul 26,2006 by Lin Davies

Good morning everyone,  Sorry this report is a day late.  I have been at the Lancashire Show for several days and then I spent a full day over at the fisheries yesterday.  Here is the fishing report for last week.

Main Lake (Carp)
The biggest reported carp last week was a 20lb common which was fished from peg 61/62.   There were quite a few carp caught last week despite the very difficult weather conditions.  They were as follows:   14lb grass, 9lb grass, 16lb grass, 16lb mirror, 10lb common, 14lb grass, 19lb common, 10lb mirror, 11lb common, 18lb mirror, 18lb 2oz mirror, 14lb mirror and a 17lb 8oz mirror.   The hot spot pegs seem to have been 61/62 and 65/66.  Carp can be seen basking on the top all over the lake at present.    I have put together a new photo album for the Lancashire Show which is now in the main office at the fisheries.  I have pulled together all the photographs we have taken of all the significant carp catches over the last five years.  Its quite interesting to see the various fish over the years and how much weight they have put on.  Please have a quick look next time you are in the office.  I have spoken to several fishery owners over the last few weeks and they are all saying the same in that it has been a very slow year carp wise due to the very up and down weather conditions.  Still there is plenty of time yet for our biggest fish to show.

Main Lake (Pleasure)
Some anglers have struggled due to the very hot weather.  Having said that there have been some 30 - 80lb bags reported.  Anthony Eccles of Blackburn had a wonderful session on Thursday using float and pinkies fishing from peg 86.  Anthony said that he had a 60lb bag plus of very healthy looking fish.  Mick Jarvis of Bury fished peg 23 on Monday and had a nice 55lb bag of fish using feeder and maggot.  Mick said he caught at least 12 good bream and some roach.

Match and Pleasure Lake
This lake has been a joy to fish.  You do tend to get a bit of breeze on the top and we have had some very happy anglers fish this lake.  Some good mixed bags of fish have been reported including carp, tench, roach, chub, crucians.  Fishing off the bottom and using small bits have been very successful.  Mike and Jim Harling had a wonderful days fishing on Monday and said since we changed the flow of water in this lake they have really had some excellent sessions.  We had a party of young school children from a local school last week and it was lovely to see them enjoying their days sport.  It was quite a new experience for some of the lads and lasses and at least four of them said they would like to return and take up the sport seriously.  The biggest bags reported were 80lb, 90lb and 100lb.  A 14lb 2oz carp was caught in the match lake last week.

Fly Lake
Conditions were difficult last week due to the very hot weather.  We have introduced yet another aerator into the pond.  The averages are as follows:

Monday 3.1
Tuesday 1.6
Wednesday 3.0
Thursday 1.2
Friday 1.4
Saturday 0.1
Sunday 2.0

CDC buzzers and black spiders are working at the moment.

GENERAL

As you can imagine we have a bit of a battle on our hands at the moment trying to ensure that our livestock are coping in this very hot weather.  We have introduced several aerators in the ponds and we are pumping water into the trout lake from the main lake just to try and ensure that the water is oxygenated.  We have heard that several waters have closed because of the very hot conditions.  Looking at the long term forecast the weather does become a little cooler next week.

I would also like to thank all those customers who popped in to see us at the Lancashire Show.  It is always great to see you.  A special thanks goes out to Martin James the well known BBC presenter who worked so hard to put together the fishing village event at the Lancashire Show.  Martin works really hard  promoting and raising the profile of our sport both in this country and abroad.

I feel that we all have a part to play in promoting the sport.  Yes I mean you the reader of this email.  I want to ask you all a favour.  I would really like you to look around your circle of friends and try and introduce just one of them to the sport.  I am not asking you to bring them to Pendle View (it would be nice if you did), but the important thing is to try and get more people to take up the sport.

I had a great time at the Lancashire Show and feel I have done my bit to encourage quite a few people to take a closer look at what our sport has to offer.

Well I will get off my "soap box" now and wish you all a great week.  Hope to see you on the banks sometime.

best wishes everyone,
