Pendle View Fishing Report for Weekending 18th June

Jun 20,2006 by Lin Davies

Hello everyone hope you are well. Well I must say our banks have been a lot quieter over the last week.  We think its due to the world cup.  I had a phone call from a local tackle shop last week and he said can I ask if you are busy.  I said to be honest we have been really quiet this week and he said "thank goodness for that - I wondered what was wrong."

I have since spoken to a few fisheries and apparently its the same all over.  I understand that the retail sector is also very quiet.

One of the things I have done for all those customers who want to see the world cup is install a TV.  We did not go live with the tele till about Tuesday as I was waiting on my TV licence to arrive.  So if you want to watch the football and still get in some fishing you now can do both.

Here is the fishing report for last week.

Main Lake (Carp)
Not many anglers this week so not many carp caught.  Here is the list for the week.  17lb mirror caught on scopex from peg 48/49.  6lb mirror caught on fake corn from 48.49.  8lb mirror caught from peg 31.  10lb grass and 6lb mirror caught from peg 48/49.  20lb mirror caught on fake corn.  James the angler who caught the 20lb mirror also played a big fish which sadly got away.  13lb mirror again caught on fake corn.  We all thought spawning had ended but it looks at though as it has not ended as we all thought.  Carp can be seen still in large numbers in the shallows.

Main Lake (Pleasure)
Quite a few 30lb plus bags out during the week.  The biggest bag reported this week was on Thursday when David McFadden from Houghton caught a 76lb bag of fish.  David said that he fished tip and used maggot.  Bream, roach, and perch have shown well this week.  Barry Stevens from Burnley had a great day when he fished Pendle View for the first time.  Barry said he had a nice 33lb bag of fish using quiver and maggot.  James Blononski of Preston caught 105 fish during his half day session at Pendle View of Tuesday.  James said he did not weight the bag but he said that there were some lovely fish in his bag.    Maggot seems to have been the most successful bait.

Match and Pleasure Lake
We have made one or two mods to this lake in the last week.  For those of you who have not visited last week we have removed one end of the walk way so that the water can now circulate completely around thus we believe making the fish more contented.  Initial reports from anglers who have fished it recently say they are pleased with the results.  About 40 anglers have fished the match lake this week and results have been favourable.   The biggest bag of the week goes to David Jason of Colne who had a 23lb bag of fish.  David said he normally fishes the main lake but tried the match lake for the first time.  David had some lovely carp and tench and hybrids using tip with maggot.  Mark Wilcock of Manchester also had a great day using tip and maggot.  His bag weighed 25lb and he said he had a great chill out day.

Fly Lake
Here are the averages for the week
Monday 5.3
Tuesday 3.4
Wednesday 4.7
Thursday 4.1
Friday 4.2
Saturday 2.6
Sunday 4.1

Mick Burns caught a nice 4lb 8oz rainbow on Friday using a daddy.  Most fish returned to the water this week were by Mike Towers.  Mike returned 15 fish to the water during a 6 hr catch and release session on Friday.  Steve Johnson returned 11 fish to the water on the same day during his half day catch and release session.  Dave Baxter of Clitheroe returned 19 fish back to the water on Wednesday during his half day catch and release session.   On Thursday Tony Webster fished our lake.  Tony was on holiday and had travelled from the Isle of Sanday in Orkney.  Tony said he really enjoyed his six hours catch and release with us.  He returned 6 fish to the water.  The best flies of the week were buzzer and daddies.

GENERAL
I had a phone call from the Angling Times last week.  Apparently they send scouts out up and down the country evaluating fisheries in general.  Last year we were voted 57th out of the 100 best fisheries in the UK.   This year we have been voted 15th out of the best 100 fisheries in the UK.   We are really delighted to hear this news.  I should be getting the copy sent to me soon and it be published in the Angling Times soon so I will let you know more when I do.

Have a great week everyone.

best wishes
