Wow the weather has gone a bit wild over the last week. Despite that we have had quite a few brave souls come and visit us.
Here is the fishing report for last week.
Doughnut Lake (Pleasure)
The Doughnut Lake has seen some action with Mark Spencer float fishing maggot and caster for 20lb of silvers. Mark also caught a nice tench weighing 5lb using loose feeding caster with maggot as hook bait. Quite a few other anglers have fished the Doughnut Lake and caught small bags of about 5lb to 14lb. Loose feeding seems to get the fish going while ground bait seems to be scaring them away.
Main Lake (Pleasure)
The Main Lake is still fishing well for silvers. Caster, worm, and pinkies seem to be the bait to use at the moment. Joe Johnson caught some nice fish using tip from peg 27. He landed a nice 50lb bag of silvers which were made up of bream, roach, and a few crucian carp. Included in his bag was a nice big perch. Joe said that pro gold bream and red ground bait did the trick. Joe said he had a brilliant day and it was a case of a fish a chuck. We have had quite a few anglers fish the main lake this week fishing for silvers with casters, pinkies and hemp with ground bait for tip fishing and loose feeding for pole anglers.
Main Lake (Carp)
Carp have slowed up during the cold spell. Peg 89 saw a nice 14lb mirror on a 12mm white chocolate boilie. Sadly a couple of better fish were lost at the net. The weather has been a bit up and down and the carp are either up in the water or down on the bottom depending on the temperatures. A day ticket angler, new to our waters caught a nice 10lb common on a Pendle white chocolate boilie with a few loose offerings. I am still waiting to report a carp over 40lbs plus. So come on all you winter carpers I know they are in there.........
Fly Fishing
Due to the adverse weather conditions and that awful wind the fly lake has been a little up and down. Some fly anglers have been struggling whilst others are catching as many as 5 or 6 fish in a two hour session. Hares ears and buzzers with daddies seem to have worked well along with small lures using a slow figure eight retrieve.

GENERAL
Martin Salter, the Government's Parliamentary spokesman for Angling and Shooting is suggesting that an additional £1.00 could be added to the cost of Environmental Agency Rod Licences to give the sport a more powerful voice with decision makers. The money generated would fund an all encompassing governing body, offering a single voice for the UK's 3.5 million anglers. They are asking anglers for their opinions on the idea. Martin said that for a long time now he has believed that angling in this country needs a strong and powerful voice to speak up on the issues that affect our sport. He also wants to see a more professional approach to the structure and governance of angling to enable Britain's most popular sport to properly punch its weight. At the moment we are seen as the poor relations compared with countries such as France, Holland or America. Martin Salter is asking for your views on the matter. Specialist Anglers Alliance secretary Mike Heylin said "he thinks the idea is a good one but more needs to be done to attract people into the sport and a major PR campaign needs to be completed to target the non angling public, particularly to teachers and parents."
Philip and I think the idea is a good one. We have thought for some time that more needs to be done to promote the sport. Lin and Philip are both working with local schools to introduce them to the sport. They are also talking to the planners about building an educational facility so that learners have their own individual "learning pond."
Lin feels that our own customers can also do a lot to keep the sport alive by introducing a friend to the joys of fishing.
