Pendle View Fishing Report 6th May 2007

May 08,2007 by Lin Davies

Hello everyone,

Sorry this report is late.  I did not get the information from Ryan till late tonight.   I usually post it to our web site and then cut and paste to send it out in email format.  Anyway to cut a long story short our web page is down so I am having to re type it all again for you.  At least you will have your report tonight.  I will have to post it to the web site early tomorrow.   Well its been a mixture of weather from quite warm, windy at times, bright sunshine during the week, turning to colder weather during the Bank Holiday.  Here is the fishing report.

Main Lake (pleasure)
The fish are starting to spawn so bag weights are dropping slightly.  Having said that there is still plenty of sport to be had.  Ringers dark and bag mix still proving successful for those who like to catch bream.  The biggest bag this week fell to young Arron from Liverpool.  He caught a nice 80lb bag of skimmers and bream.  Arron's set up was a 12 foot feeder rod with a 7lb main line down to a 4lb hook link with a size 14 B911 kamasan hook.  Arron used a snap swivel to change feeders from a 30g to a 20g feeder with worm and red maggot as hook bait.  Glad you had a good session Arron.  Some anglers seem to have done well catching silvers, whilst others struggled. Red maggots, caster and pinkies have been the best baits for catching silvers.

Doughnut Lake (pleasure)
This lake has seen fish spawning all over the place and bags weights have been affected.  One of our regulars Mr. Taylforth caught a nice 45lb bag of silvers fishing pellet and caster.  Some of our regulars have struggled during the week, whilst some have faired quite well.  Quite a few anglers have fished the margins with vde micro pellet and caster with paste as hook bait.  The long pole is playing a big part on this lake at the moment with a wire stem pole float keeping hook baits steady and close to the bottom.

Main Lake (carp)
We have seen lots of carp come to the bank this week.  Things kicked off to a great start early in the week when one of our regulars caught 10 carp during a 24 hour session.  Most successful pegs have been 20/21, 71/72, 29/30, and 65/66. Its not been a great week for our really big fish (the high 30's).  The biggest fish of the week was  a 29lb 13oz common caught on a tiger nut boilie. A nice fish in good condition from all accounts.  Ryan reported that one angler caught a really big fish but the angler's line got snagged.  Ryan had to put his diving gear on and unteather the fish. Ryan said it was a nice big carp, but alas it was not brought to the banks. Carp reported as caught were as follows: 8lb mirror, 22lb mirror, 24lb mirror, 19lb 9oz, 18lb leather, 17lb mirror, 15lb mirror, 13lb common, 20lb common, 17lb mirror, 8lb mirror, 19lb mirror, 4lb common, 11lb common, 12lb common, 11lb common, 12lb ghostie, 14lb mirror, 20lb mirror, 21lb mirror, 19lb mirror, 16lb mirror, 14lb mirror and 16lb grass carp.  A variety of boilies have worked well including tiger nut, fusion boilies, and home made boilies.  Our banks were very busy at the weekend and sadly quite a few could not get a peg.  Just a quick reminder to ask you to ring our friendly staff (particularly at the weekends) just to check the peg status.  We are looking at the options at the moment of building some more double carp pegs.  I will keep you posted of any decisions we make.  I was speaking to one of our regulars today - he was in fact the angler who landed a 40lb plus carp some two years ago.  We were speculating on when a 40lber will show again at Pendle.  The angler in question had told me that he had spent the weekend fishing for carp but had blanked.  We were talking about just how difficult a water Pendle View can be.  I remember well the day that Rob Hughes fished our waters. (Rob Hughes is a well known and quite famous carper).   I went over to him to ask how it had fished for him during his overnight session.  He told me he had blanked.  I remember him saying that he had seen quite a few carp but his tactics had just not worked on this occassion.  He told me at the time that Pendle was a very difficult water, and this has stuck with me.

Fly Lake
Results have been a little up and down.  Dry fly, cats whisker, and tadpole used a varied retrieve is working well, whislt a floating line early in the morning for lures and late afternoon for drys.

Here are the averages

Monday 5.7
Tuesday  3.6
Wednesday 6.5
Thursday 1.2
Friday 3.3
Saturday 4.7
Sunday 1.8

Well folks thats all for now.  It was nice to see a few familiar faces on our banks this weekend.

best wishes

Site Editor Julian Grattidge likes nothing more than a good natter about all things carp. Indeed, working from home, his kitchen is usually full of passing waifs, strays, and Northern-Monkey mates who just happen to be passing by. Good Job he’s got a big kettle!
