Newton-le-Willows AA match & fishery news 4th, May 06
The Yew Tree Reservoir. Ron Boardman had a nice 15lbs mirror carp and 5lbs bream in a session which included many silver fish. 14year old Jamie Kitts caught a nice brace of mirror carp of 8 and 14lbs on floating dog biscuit.
James Garret landed a nice 8lbs mirror on bottom fished meat, he was delighted with is first ever large carp. The Sankey Canal, Upper pound is fishing very well for carp, tench, bream, ide’s and silver fish, considering the time of year. However, on a very serious note a double figure linear mirror carp was found dead this week and the definite cause of this was very bad handling by the person who last caught it, this is not acceptable, not only, for the welfare of the fish, but also the cost of replacing the fish goes into hundreds of pounds, any one found carp fishing without a carp mat will be severely dealt with.
The lower pound is fishing well for silver fish as well as chub, tench and small carp to 7lbs. Both these two sections are available on day ticket, £4 adult and £1-50 juniors. The members only section at Penkford bridge Common Rd is fishing well when the suns on it, but quite poor with dull conditions and winds from the east, on its day you can expect mega catches of quality roach, including tench, brownies, common and mirror carp and even the odd koi up into double figures.
The Vulcan reservoir is as consistent as ever, producing volume catches of skimmers, roach, rudd, perch, tench and small carp, all baits are taking fish, maggot or punch bread best. The vulcan Reservoir is a fantastic water for teaching your kids to fish, it is approx 1-8 acres in size and can accomodate approx 32 anglers.

Vulcan Reservoir
