Newton-le-Willows AA Match & fishery report, 18-5-06

The Lower Pound is fishing well for small carp and good tench gearing up for big fish is the thing here, also plenty of silver fish, to maggot pinky or caster. Day tickets are available to non members on these two sections only, £4-00 adult, £1-50 junior.

The members only section at Penkford bridge is starting to fish well, plenty of good roach, tench, brownies, bream, and crucians, along with some excellent carp fishing, for common, mirror and koi carp, for those who have just joined it is one rod and no boilies  here.

The Yew Tree Reservoir is fishing very well for carp up to 20lbs and lots of good quality silver fish, with good tench and bream, Maggot and caster fished on the drop with pole will have you catching well at the moment.

The Vulcan Reservoir is fishing very well for numbers fishing high catch returns are the game here with small F1 carp and tench and lots of silver fish, corn, punched bread and meat, maggot or caster are all taking fish.

Haydock Park Farm: Cow Hay Dam is fishing very well, hybrids and bream to 4lbs good roach and skimmers, carp up into double figures, along with the odd tench on bread flake.

The lagoon has its good and bad days at the moment, but there are a lot of good quality roach, skimmers, perch, tench and carp in this little water and worth a try for.

Moat House Farm Fishery at Gorsey Lane Burtonwood is fishing very well small to double figure carp, tench, chub, ide’s and other silver fish are all providing quick sport. Tickets are £5 and £3 concessions.

To join the association, you can go along to Newton social and cabaret club, Patterson St, off Cross Lane, on Monday nights at 8-30 pm, new seniors please bring two small photo’s for your I D Card.


Harry’s Tackle Spring League, Round 7. Sunday 14-5-06.

Dave more than doubles the weight of his nearest rival. Seventeen anglers turned out on the Upper pound section of the Sankey Canal on pegs 2 to 40, to fish this match. The winner was Dave Lloyd on peg 40, fishing on pole he caught Ide and bream, for 20lbs-14ozs-0drms. His first seven fish was Ide’s averaging a pound in weight, with a number of bream following. Second place went to National team skipper Mark Brown on peg 38, with Ide’s and bream on long pole for 10-4-8. Third place went to John Cheetham on peg 16, with tench and bream on pole for 9-5-0. In fourth place was Ian Alexander on peg 6, with Ide’s and tench for 9-4-0.

Disabled & Over Sixties Members weekly match 18-5-06.
Twelve members fished the match on the lower pound section of the Sankey Canal. 1st, Eddie Cook peg 124,… 10-6-0, tench, small carp & silver fish. 2nd, Ray Bowden peg 125… 5-11-0, small carp & silver fish. 3rd, John Ormershire peg 120, …2-11-0, silver fish. If you are over sixty or have a disability and are a paid up member, you can fish these matches each week. Match organiser Brian Aspinall was saying, “he would like to see more of our disabled and over sixties members joining in, the matches are well run and we try to assist where there is a need with disability”.
