Newton-le-Willows A Asc match & fishery news 15-6-06.

Jun 19,2006 by Eddie Marcroft

Fishery News: On almost all our waters the fish are now well and truly breeding, the fringes are full of fish and they are not interested in taking baits, well who could blame them really, so this is the area where the would be impatient angler needs to develop a certain degree of at least, understanding and perhaps a little more patients with regards to catch rates.

Vulcan Reservoir is fishing quite well with crucian carp, F1 carp, tench, roach, rudd, ides, skimmers and perch, all providing some good sport, caster, maggot corn, punched bread & meat, pinky and worm are all taking fish.

A similar case on the Yew Tree Reservoir same baits producing and roach are plentyfull if you can fish the drop method on pole carp are on the surface and taking off the bottom some good bream and tench as well. Haydock Park Farm is fishing very well for silver fish and carp. The Lagoon is producing some great catches of rudd and roach on the drop and other fish like skimmers, perch, tench and koi carp are also there to be caught. Cow Hay Dam is producing some good catches of roach, hybrids, skimmers, rudd, perch and some quality carp upto and into double figures.

The Sankey canal Upper pound is fishing quite well for silver fish, bream, tench, perch and Carp. The Lower Pound is fishing well for small carp to 8lbs tench to the same, bream, and silver fish, day tickets are available off the banking on these two waters. Two rods are permitted only on these two waters, and one rod on any other association water, a pole and a rod is not allowed on any of our waters.

The members only section at Penkford Bridge is fishing well silver fish dominating sport here but some great tench, bream, perch, brownies and carp in this members only water.

The committee & workers match, The Billy Middleham memorial trophy, Sunday 12-6-06.

The match was held on the Yew Tree Reservoir last Sunday, and the fish were more interested in breeding rather than feeding. Committee member Wayne O’Shea came out on top in this contest fishing worm and caster he had tench, roach and skimmers on pole at 10meters for 8lbs 10ozs 0drms.
In second place was association secretary, Eddie Marcroft with a mixed bag of roach, skimmers and small perch for 6-0-0 to maggot fished on the drop at 8meters. Third place went to committee member Ivor Brown, he had a mixed bag of small roach, perch and skimmers for 4-10-0. There followed a buffet lunch at the association head quarters and a good day was had by all who took part, our thanks go to those who have helped us over the last year.
