Newton-le-Willows AA fishery news 8th June 2006

The Members only section of the Sankey canal at Penkford Bridge is fishing quite well considering the fish have all gone into the breeding habit. Ronnie Boardman had a nice 14lb plus mirror carp along with three other carp upto 3lbs, with four tench to 4lbs along crucians, roach and rudd not a bad Sunday Mornings fishing.

Haydock Park Farm: Cow Hay dam is fishing well for bream, and silver fish to maggot on pole with light tackle. Mark Chapman had a nice brace of mirror carp 6 and 9lbs to floating dog biscuit.
The lagoon is fishing well for rudd and small perch along with skimmers, roach, tench and the odd koi carp.

The Vulcan reservoir is fishing well for small carp, tench, and silver fish including plenty skimmers maggots on light pole rigs are favourite dropping through the water slowly.

Persons wanting to join the association can go along to Newton- le- Willows social & cabaret Club, Patterson St, off cross lane on Monday nights at 8-30pm, new senior members need two small photo’s for your I.D, pass.

Harry’s Tackle, Spring League, Final round, 10. Sunday 4-6-06,

The match was held on the Lower pound section of the Sankey Canal, and although there was plenty of fish activity it mainly due to breeding and cleaning off. This didn’t put of the winner John Cheetham fishing off peg 124 he reeled in 9 tench, 3small carp and a couple of eels on long pole and worm for 24lbs-13ozs-0drms. Second place went to Dave Lloyd with some quality bream off peg 122 on pole and caster for 15-3-0. Third place went to Paul Brown on 120 with bream and eels for 10-13-0.

The winner of the league with 61 points was Ian Alexander so he is now this years Harry Tackle spring league Champion, runner up was Dave Lloyd with 58 points and third placed was John Cheetham with 57 points so all together a close run contest.
The association would like to thank Harry’s Tackle from Old Rd Ashton In Makerfield for their kind sponsorship of this ten match series, It has been a great success so we will no doubt be doing it all again next year.

1st, David Jolley,  peg 42,13-11-0 bream & silver fish.
2nd, Ray Shorrocks, peg 54, 8-3-0. tench, bream & roach.
3rd, Gordon Shorrocks peg 44,7-6-0, tench & silver fish.

The Disabled & Over Sixties weekly sweepstake, Thur, 8-6-06.
1st, Eddie Cook, peg 42,6-10-0. Bream and silver fish.
2nd, Ray Bowden, peg 35,.5-10-0.Roach, Ide’s and skimmers.
3rd, John Ormershire  peg 29,5-7-0.Roach, Ide’s and skimmers.
4th, Stan Charnock, peg 30,5-6-0.Bream and silver fish.
