Newton-le-Willows Fishery News 3 May 2007
Newton AA waters are fishing very well throughout, as are most of the waters in our area.The Sankey Canal Upper Pound/ Lower Pounds, are fishing great with good pleasure catches through the both sections and excellent match weights so for this season, Silver fish are there in large numbers and bream, tench and carp in quality sizes are also there and showing. Day Tickets are available, only, on these two sections, £4-00 adult, and £150 juniors.
The members only section at Penkford Bridge, is producing some very good roach catches along with tench in numbers, bream to 6lbs, brownies to over 4lbs, Koi carp to over 14lbs and king carp to over the 18lbs mark, maggot or caster will have you catching here and big baits for the big fish.
The Yew tree reservoir has been fishing really well with roach to over 1, ½ lbs, Brian Forber had a roach here last week weighing in at 1lb-12ozs-0drms, bream to over 6lbs, carp well into double figures plenty of skimmers to over the pound and tench to 4lbs. The Vulcan Reservoir is fishing very well for silver fish in large numbers along with tench, perch, F1 carp, small mirror and common carp,this is a great water to teach your kids the sport of angling. Haydock Park Farm; Cow Hay Dam is fishing fantastic for most species roach, hybrids, rudd, perch, bream and carp are all providing hot sport.
The Lagoon is fishing great for roach and rudd along with some good sized bream, tench, and koi carp to over 8lbs Permits are on sale on Monday nights at 8-30pm, Newton Social and Cabaret Club, Patterson St, (off Cross Ln) new senior members please bring two small photo’s for your I,d pass
Round Three, Harry’s Tackle/ Newton AA Spring League, Sunday, 29th, April. The Match took place on the upper pound of the Sankey Canal, twenty six members took part. The winner on peg 31 was Dennis Greenalgh, fishing pole at 10 meters and caster he caught bream, tench and silver fish for 36lbs-13ozs-0drms.Second place went to association team captain Mark Brown on peg 79, again with bream tench and silver fish on pole and caster for 28-4-0.Third place was Eddie Cook, on peg 75, with a similar catch of bream and silver fish on pellet for 27-1-0.Section winners:Section 1, Alan Birchall on peg 33, with 8-9-4.Section 2, Ivor Brown, on peg 69, with 21-14-12.
Disabled & Over 60s Weekly members match. Thur, 3-5-07. Lower Pound Sankey Canal Newton, 1st, Brian Aspinall peg 128, 23-11-0. 2nd, Brian Wrench peg 131, 18-1-0. 3rd, Ivor Brown Peg 129, 13-4-0 4th, Jeff Clare peg 121, 10-14-0.
