Newton-le-Willows A Asc, Match & fishery news, 25th, October.

Oct 25,2007 by Julian Grattidge

Fishery News: Newton-le-Willows Anglers Association attended the St Helens Council’s Civic Pride Awards last Tuesday 23rdOctober, at St Helens Town hall, were we were presented with an award for our contribution and services to the local environment.

Our section of the River Dane at Ravenscroft, Middlewich, is fishing quite well, some good chub to over 4lbs with dace roach gudgeon and of coarse barbel to over 6lbs, caster, maggot will see you catching chub and dace whilst big baits take care of the bigger fish. Sankey brook has seen a slight up turn in chub catches, one member reported he had nine chub to 3lbs on bronze maggot offered on stick float. On the still water scene the yew tree still refuses to fish for silver fish, carp are being caught off the top or on the bottom. Penkford Bridge has gone very quiet for silver fish, with sport here coming to an abrupt standstill, with nothing being caught for the moment.

The Sankey canal upper and lower pounds are producing silver fish, with decent sized carp, bream, tench and pike, but at this time of the year fish will start to shoal up tightly. Haydock park farm, Cow Hay Dam is producing some good catches of silver fish, with bream and hybrids to over 4lbs, along with some nice double figured carp. The Lagoon is fishing well for roach, perch, skimmers and the odd koi. The Vulcan Reservoir is fishing very well for the time of year with plenty of skimmers and roach to maggot or caster, and tench with F1 carp still showing despite the frost.

The Disabled & Over Sixties Members, weekly match. Thursday 25-10-07.
