Newton –le-Willows A, Asc, Match & fishery news 22nd Nov 2007.

Dec 06,2007 by Eddie Marcroft

The cold weather with easterly winds, is having its usual effect on the associations fisheries with the majority of our waters fishing hard, light tackle small hooks is the name of the game at the moment and go when the sun has been on the water.

The Sankey canal is fishing quite patchy but this is due to the fish shoaling tight up for the winter and spawning. You can have a great days pleasure fishing if you drop on the fish pegs 1 and 2 are good for this.

Cow hay dam, is producing some very good catches, roach, hybrids, bream perch and double figure carp are all providing sport. The lagoon is a bit slow but lots of perch and roach on offer here punch bread or pinky, are catching on here.
The River Dane is producing some good catches of chub and dace to bronze maggot or caster, please be careful as pegs are slippery following rain. The Sankey brook is giving up the odd good chub along with dace and roach, again bronze or red maggot or caster on stick float or feeder rig.

The Yew tree reservoir is still not fishing for silver fish but one or two nice double figure carp are still showing. The Vulcan reservoir is fishing quite well despite the cold weather with plenty of silver fish showing to red maggot or pinkie’s, punched bread will work on here all year round.

Site Editor Julian Grattidge likes nothing more than a good natter about all things carp. Indeed, working from home, his kitchen is usually full of passing waifs, strays, and Northern-Monkey mates who just happen to be passing by. Good Job he’s got a big kettle!
