The Well provides new PB for James Davies

Apr 30,2007 by Julian Grattidge

James Davies (brother of Thompson's pool regular Jon) beat his previous personal best by just 4 oz with a superb 28 lb 12 oz mirror. James fished alongside Jon in "The Well" swim catching the specimen on Tails Up OCM on a size 6 Fox series 1 hook. Lee Moriarty and his pal Lee Warwick both had a fish with a 19 lb and 22 lb mirror respectively. It was Heathrow Baits Red Indian boilies doing the trick for both anglers. Steve Jones fished "The Well" a couple of days before James Davies (above) and managed a 20 lb mirror. Steve fished small P.V.A bags filled with pellet and crushed Dynamite Indulgence Spicy Chicken boilies.

Wes Williams broke his personal best by over 3 lb with a gorgeous looking 24 lb common. Wes who has only been carp fishing a few months now and has already caught a host of impressive specimens. Wes set up on the "Double Bay", fishing Trakker Redskin boilies.

Joe Chambers fished Thompson's Pool in search of one of the big catfish and was made up when he landed the smaller of the two, but still a whacking fish weighing 28 lb. Joe fished the "Barbecue" swim on 21mm halibut pellets.
The Old Carp Lake has been prolific over the past few weeks and continues to do so during this hot weather. Local youngster Dan Congrave caught six fish during a 48 hour session. His fish included a 11 lb 8 oz mirror and the biggest of the session a 13 lb mirror. Dan fished the "Volcano" swim, Nash Formula Fish his chosen bait. Stuart Whittaker managed a hat-trick of fish during a short evening session. Stuart had fish of 9 lb, and two 8 lb mirrors all on Elite Baits Christmas Cracker.

Gary Wright banked four fish and lost five during his overnighter in the "Old Bay". Gary first caught a cracking 15 lb 7 oz catfish on Halibut pellet, followed by three mirrors weighing 17 lb 12 oz, 9 lb and 8 lb which he had on Nash Pineapple, Mainline N.R.G and Pulse boilies.

Kevin Marsden was very happy indeed when he landed two pike of 15 lb (a new personal best) and 13 lb. Kevin fished a popped up lamprey section which proved vital in fooling the hungry predators.

Steve Burrows totalled ten fish during a 48 hour session in "Catfish Channel". Steve had five carp, the biggest a 15 lb simmo. The biggest fish of the session for Steve was a 21 lb catfish, it was one of four moggies caught during the session. The other three weighed 20 lb, 17 lb and 13 lb 8 oz. Steve fished double 14 mm halibut pellets which accounted for all nine of his fish. Quality fishing for the Liverpool angler.

Lee Davies was also one fish short off double figures with nine mirrors, the biggest a chunky 19 lb simmo. Lee fished across from his friend Andy Ellis on the "Point" swim, Andy managed two fish to 12 lb both were mirrors caught on Tails Up OCM. Lee fished Trakker Red Skins.

Oswyn Rowlands caught his first Old Carp Lake fish, and then went on to manage another four during a 24 hour session in the "Front" swim. Oz caught two commons of 12 lb and 10 lb, an 8 lb mirror and the biggest of the session a 14 lb 10 oz common all on Nash Whisky boilies.

Dave Odlin and Brian Ward spent a couple of nights in Dilly Dally cottage in search of their first ever catfish. Both were not dissapointed as Dave managed an 21 lb catfish and a 18 lb mirror. Dave fished halibuts for the cat, and Nash Formula fish boilies for the carp. Brian landed a 17 lb catfish and four mirrors to 17 ll 8 oz. It was a very enjoyable holiday for the Cheshire based anglers.
