Venue Profile: Capesthorne Main Lake, Siddington
Capesthorne Hall Main Lake is a classic English estate lake of around eight-acres located in the grounds of the magnificent stately home. The water has been fished by many high profile anglers over the years and has featured in several carp fishing books and magazines. The famous red brick bridge divides the pool into two halves; The Garden Pool and the Park Pool.
Overview
The Garden Pool sits to the west of the bridge and at around six feet is the deepest area covering around three acres. To the east of the bridge is the narrow Park Pool extending to around four acres, which averages three feet by the bridge and shallows to just two feet at the top end. There are marginal features everywhere and lots of pads in the summer which the carp love to patrol along, giving rise to some excellent stalking opportunities.
Stock
The Main Lake contains roughly eighty carp with around thirty of these over 20lb and more pushing through each year. There are currently around sixteen fish over 25lb, and three of these can be caught at over 30lb. The venue produced two new fish over thirty pounds during 2005, although the infamous ‘Two Tone’ remains everybody’s favourite at a top weight just over 32lb.
