FOX Series 2 Carp Match Hooks

Oct 26,2006 by Julian Grattidge

It’s always nice when somebody puts you on to a great product; such was the case with the Series 2 Match hooks from Fox International.

The hooks are based on the Fox Series 2 specimen carp hooks, which I have used on more than one occasion in the past, but the match versions are much smaller, sized in; 12/14/16/18/20 available in either spade end or eyed.

The hooks are designed with the coarse and match angler in mind, allowing the presentation of much smaller baits like pellets, paste, meat corn and worms. However, as a specimen angler, my interest in these hooks was aroused when I was advised to give them a go when surface fishing for large carp.

Yes they are small, but flippin' heck… are they strong! In fact, I can’t believe just how strong they are! The bonus with this is that when matched to a dog biscuit for surface fishing, they are so light that they don’t sink the biscuit as it soaks up water. I’ve been using in sizes; 12/14 and 16 over the last few weeks with great success, landing a succession of hard fighting carp to upper doubles with ease.

I was a little unsure how well they would hook being so small, but they have fantastically sharp, in-turned points which can only improve hooking effectiveness, and manufactured from high carbon steel wire, they remain strong and durable throughout.

If you enjoy surface fishing for carp, my advice is simple - get some!

I’ve used nothing else since I came across these hooks and a nice shiny size 12 is already rigged up on my stalking rod for a few hours surface fishing later on today!

One of many bagged on Fox Match hooks!
